Singapore Airlines Hit by Severe Turbulence
One person is dead and several injured after severe
turbulence on a Singapore Airlines flight.
The airlines says the plane from London was carrying
229 passengers and crew when it was diverted to Bangkok for an emergency
landing.
Well, we now know that in addition to that one
fatality, 18 people have been hospitalized, another12, are being treated for
their injuries.
Now this flight took off from here in the UK last night, Monday night. We then understand around 4:00 PM local time in Thailand is when they hit this patch of turbulence.
And we've been seeing images that have been put out on social media showing the cabin of the airline just scattered with debris. Anyone who wasn't seat belted in went and hit the seat.
One passenger even described the scene, saying suddenly the aircraft starts tilting up and there was shaking. So I started bracing for what was happening.
Very suddenly there was a dramatic drop, so everyone seated and not wearing a seat belt was launched immediately into the ceiling. He says some people hit their heads on the baggage cabinets overhead, denting it.
At Singapore Airlines offers its deepened condolences to the family of the deceased. We deeply apologize for the traumatic experience that our passengers and crew members suffered on this flight. They say they're providing all necessary assistance during this difficult time.
They're working with our colleagues and the local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary assistance, going so far as to say that a Singapore Airlines team is on the way to Bangkok to provide any additional assistance as needed, and that they've also set up a hotline for relatives seeking information.
